Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year from Sport Birmingham
As 2020 draws to a close, we look back on one of the most unusual years. Despite all the challenges and uncertainty this year has brought, Birmingham clubs and community organisations have risen to the challenge, continuing to adapt and support our community in so many ways. Thank you for all your hard work and resilience. We are incredibly proud of all we have achieved together.
A huge thank you to all our volunteers, staff and partners for their commitment and support this year. Thank you too to our Trustees. We look forward to working with all of you in 2021.
We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and health and happiness for 2021.

Join the Movement in Birmingham!
|
Join the Movement is a National Lottery-funded campaign from Sport England helping everyone throughout the UK to find ways to get active as we deal with coronavirus restrictions.
Why Join the Movement?
• |
Physical activity has a huge role to play in helping people cope with what could well be a very difficult winter. |
• |
Physical activity delivers immediate mental health and social benefits and has a long-term positive impact on our physical health. |
• |
We know people are concerned and anxious right now, but we also know that being active can be a genuine antidote. |
• |
Focusing on the things we can do, rather than the things we can’t, will help us all get through the next few weeks. We did it earlier in the year and we can do it again, despite the colder weather. |
• |
We passionately believe people should continue to be active – whether that’s working out at home with some of the great free tools available online, or outside in a safe way. |
It’s all about simple, fun and free ways to get active, both indoors and outdoors, that the public can enjoy safely.
Join the Movement in Birmingham
Sport Birmingham are calling upon the city’s activity providers, clubs and community organisations to get involved in Join the Movement.

#TellYourStory campaign
|
AKD, UK Sport, Sport England, Sport Wales, sportscotland and Sport Northern Ireland are working together on this campaign.
#TellYourStory is a major research programme exploring race and racism in sport. They want you to get involved and share your experiences to help create real change.
They want to hear from you if you’re a sportsperson – at any level. This includes if you’ve left sport or never felt able or have felt excluded from getting involved in sports. We also want stories from you if you’re a coach, parent, fan, volunteer or work in sport – all stories matter.
They understand that things must change and they want to learn from you. Your contributions will shape the future. The research team will take all of the information, identify patterns and trends and then create a report that captures your lived experiences.
There are a couple of ways we would like you to get involved.
Sign up and join an online forum and share your experiences in an open and safe space. Each session will last a maximum of two hours and will be facilitated by one of our expert team
Alternatively, upload your story to this site. Create a video, voice note or write your account.
It will all be confidential. So you are free to speak your truth.
#TellYourStory and let’s come together to bring about real change!

Sport England: National Leisure Recovery Fund
|
The National Leisure Recovery Fund seeks to support eligible public sector leisure centres to reopen to the public, giving the sport and physical activity sector the best chance of recovery to a position of sustainable operation over the medium term.
A total of £100 million is available as a biddable fund to eligible local authorities in England, which will be allocated in a single funding round covering the period 1 December 2020 to 31 March 2021.
Funding objectives
The core objectives of the National Leisure Recovery Fund are to:
• |
Support the reopening of public sector leisure facilities and activities following the second period of national restrictions in England. |
• |
Provide the best chance of recovery to a position of sustainable operation over the medium to long term. |
• |
Sustain the delivery of activities (such as swimming) that aren’t widely accessible in the private market. |
• |
Enhance health and wellbeing and support physical activity across England – contributing to the government’s objectives around healthy lifestyles, reducing obesity and reducing inequality. |
The investment is intended to ensure that, by 31 March 2021, successful applicants are either:
• |
fully or partially reopened, subject to continued coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions |
• |
operating on a sustainable, cost-efficient, basis so that, where relevant, they can open more fully at a later date. |
